Oklahoma went from underdog to 5.5-point favorite at Michigan in five days

Oklahoma is a 5.5-point favorite at Michigan on Saturday, according to DraftKings, in a game that opened with Michigan favored and moved eight points in five days.

The Card, this site's picks product, logged the DraftKings opener at Michigan -2.5. Its log at 4:03 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 9, showed Oklahoma -5.5, the biggest move on the college card this week.

The card had the total at 45.5, then 43.5. ESPN's DraftKings feed showed Oklahoma -5.5 and a total of 44.5 on Friday morning.

Accounts of the opener differ by a point. MLive's Aaron McMann reported Michigan opened a 1.5-point favorite, while Detroit Sports Nation's Don Drysdale, Sportsbook Review and the card's DraftKings log had Michigan -2.5.

The flip came the day after Michigan beat Western Michigan 13-12 on Saturday, Sept. 5. By Sunday afternoon McMann reported Oklahoma -5.5 at DraftKings and Caesars, -6 at BetRivers and -6.5 at FanDuel.

On Monday morning Drysdale reported a consensus line of Oklahoma -6.5. Sportsbook Review's Mike Spector wrote that the number had flipped to Oklahoma -2.5 and drifted as high as -6.5 by Monday morning, with the total down from 45.5 to 43.5.

Bettors Insider's Bill Christy wrote Friday that the number was still climbing as late as Thursday.

The reports point to how Michigan played. Michigan won on a 47-yard Hail Mary from Bryce Underwood to JJ Buchanan after replay officials put one second back on the clock.

Michigan committed three turnovers, took nine penalties for 80 yards and held the ball for 19:52, according to Detroit Sports Nation. Oklahoma beat UTEP 51-0 the same weekend. This site covered the clock reset on Sept. 8.

Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham called the win "nothing short of a miracle," Drysdale reported, and said the team had substantial work ahead.

No sportsbook has said publicly what drove the Oklahoma move. The Week 1 result did draw comment.

Adair Horne, a trading manager at BetMGM, told Fox Sports that the extra play "was a massive swing for the book. We went from a big winner to a loser." Joey Feazel, head of football trading at Caesars Sports, said in the same recap that Michigan "was a popular selection on the moneyline for parlays."

Christy reported roughly 71 percent of spread tickets on Oklahoma. He reported no injury news to explain it.

Sports Betting Dime's Chris Amberley reported on Wednesday 72.5 percent of spread tickets and 91.4 percent of spread money on Oklahoma (tickets count bets placed, money counts dollars wagered). Spector had the total's action at 51 percent over and 49 percent under.

The card logged other large moves at DraftKings via ESPN this week. Clemson went from -26.5 to -20.5 against Georgia Southern. Georgia went from -35.5 to -40.5 against Western Kentucky. Virginia Tech went from -14 to -19.5 against Old Dominion.

California-Syracuse flipped from Cal -1.5 to Syracuse -3.5, and ESPN's DraftKings feed on Friday showed Syracuse -3 with the total up from 52.5 to 56.5. Green Bay-Minnesota went from Packers -1.5 to Vikings -1.5 on the card by Wednesday, and the feed showed Packers -1.5 again on Friday.

On the ledger, Wednesday's card had Seattle -3 as a strong lean and over 44.5 as a lean on Patriots-Seahawks. Seattle won 13-10, so the spread lean was a push and the total lean missed.

Thursday's card had San Francisco +3.5 and under 48.5, both slight leans, on 49ers-Rams in Melbourne. The 49ers won 27-7, and both leans were right.

Kickoff is noon ET Saturday at Michigan Stadium, and the last number the card logged was Oklahoma -5.5.
